Shelby Walkinshaw, LPC, PhD Candidate

Primary Therapist

Shelby Walkinshaw grew up in the wide-open spaces of Wyoming, where a deep connection to nature and animals first inspired her passion for understanding the human spirit and its relationship to the natural world. She began her professional journey as an educator, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. After many years of teaching, Shelby followed her calling to support others in deeper, more personal ways, completing a Master of Arts in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado.

Shelby is also a certified death doula, companioning individuals and families through end-of-life transitions with compassion, presence, and reverence. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), where she continues to explore the intersections of consciousness, psychology, and spirituality. Shelby’s approach to therapy is integrative, experiential, and grounded in presence. She draws from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt, and Existential therapy, weaving in Interpersonal and person-centered approaches to create a compassionate, individualized experience for each client. Her work often includes inviting clients to reconnect with their inner wisdom through body awareness and the natural world.

Outside of her professional life, Shelby finds joy and grounding in the natural world. She loves hiking, camping, skiing and snowboarding, and spending quality time with her two children and her beloved dog, Higgins. On quieter days, you might find her throwing around a kettlebell or simply soaking up the beauty of the outdoors.
